Mark was born on March 5, 1949 in Davenport, Iowa to Eugene and Virginia (Broders) Warner. Mark attended Davenport schools and was a multisport athlete at Davenport Central High School.

Mark graduated from the University of Iowa with his Masters in Secondary School Counseling in 1973. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved the University so much, he never left. Mark worked at the University of Iowa for 46 years. Mark began his career in financial aid as a graduate assistant in 1971 and retired in 2017 as the Assistant Provost for Enrollment Management and Director of Student Financial Aid. He was active in the Iowa and National Associations of Student Financial Aid Administrators and The College Board. He served on the Hy Vee Scholarship Selection Committee for many years as well as the Coalition of State University Aid Administrators. Mark served financial aid through his active participation in a variety of professional organizations such as Access Group, the Graduate and Professional School Financial Aid Council and the ACT Regional and National Advisory Committees. He received the John Heisner Lifetime Achievement Award from the Iowa Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators in 2016. Mark had a passion for helping others, was a dedicated advocate for students and his work included a focus on access and affordability to higher education. He mentored many young professionals interested in financial aid and was valued as a collaborative colleague with a good sense of humor.

In 1972, Mark met the love of his life, Susan Rohovit. Mark and Susan were married at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church on August 14, 1976. To this union, two daughters were born. Mark’s love for Susan was unwavering. His love was the kind that withstands the test of time and overcomes all obstacles. Mark was a devoted father and husband. His consistent love, generosity and support was an anchor that kept the family grounded even through the most difficult days. His courage, humor and grace during life’s challenges is an inspiration. He taught his children the importance of compassion, empathy and dependability. He always made time for his girls and maintained an amazing relationship with them throughout their adulthood. His son-in-law, Brett Donnelly was “the son he never had”. They enjoyed bonding over mutual passions, Wisconsin and Iowa football battles, and shared sense of humor. A huge bright spot in Mark’s life was his granddaughter, Colette. The feeling was mutual. Colette adored her Opa. It brought Mark so much joy traveling with Sue. He loved exploring Europe, however, felt most at home in Estes Park, Colorado. In addition to travel, Mark had a passion for music, classic cars and riding his motorcycle. He loved being outside on a beautiful day with the breeze in his hair out on the road listening to John Denver. Above all, time spent with his family is what made him the happiest. His family will miss him dearly.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; daughters: Lindsey Warner and Stefanie (Brett) Donnelly; one granddaughter, Colette and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dennis Warner.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Bird House Hospice Home for their exceptional loving care during Mark’s final days.
