Cletus Francis Klein, 93, died peacefully Friday, October 20, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Thursday, October 26, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Iowa City. Father Troy Richmond will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cletus Klein Memorial Fund c/o Hills Bank.

Clete was born July 2, 1930 in Iowa City, the son of Frank and Eugenia (Mougin) Klein. He married Jean O’Brien in 1956. He later married Marcella (Benyshek) Dvorak in 1976 in Iowa City.

Clete bravely served in the US Navy during the Korean War.

Clete was a lifelong Johnson County area farmer and was employed at Gringer Feed and Grain for many years. He was a longtime member of the Iowa City Eagles #695, where he and Marcella loved to dance. Clete was a master euchre player.

Clete is survived by his children, Kevin (Mary) Klein of Windsor, CO, Keith (Kandi) Klein of Riverside, Sheila Klein and Tony Klein, both of Iowa City; Joyce (Michael) Kinney of Virginia, and David (Melody) Dvorak of Springville; grandchildren, Jesse (Gwen) Klein, Travis Klein, Chad Klein, Kristin (Collin) Birch, Brad Beyer, Melissa (Danny) Bartoldus, Sean Ryan, Bethany Ryan, Heather (Jordan) Darrow; great grandchildren, Harper, Easton, Courtlyn, Casen, Araya, Dylan, David, and Sarah Mae; siblings, Phyllis Latta of Riverside and Jane Doyle of Davenport; granddaughter-in-law, Alisha Dvorak; and numerous extended family.

Clete was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcella; his son, Gary Klein and daughter, LuAnn Dvorak; grandson, Brandon Dvorak; great grandson, Lane Birch; twin brother, Clayton (Katherine) and siblings, Carolyn (John) Moreland, Dorothy Seemuth, Frank (Beverly) Klein Jr., and Victoria McNeal; and brothers-in-law, Don Latta, and Don Doyle.
