Phil Lange, 79, of Iowa City, passed away on September 25, 2023 at Oaknoll.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m. with a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023 with a luncheon to follow at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 325 Mormon Trek Blvd, Iowa City.

Phil was born on December 15, 1943 in Lanesboro, Minnesota. He grew up in Harmony Minnesota on his parents’ farm along with his three siblings. Phil graduated from Harmony High School and received his bachelor’s in chemistry and zoology in 1969. He received a Doctor of Pharmacy in 1974 from the University of Minnesota as part of the first Pharm D class.

Phil met the love of his life, Barb, while interning at the Methodist Hospital in Minnesota, they married in 1970.

Phil and Barb moved to Iowa City in 1974 where Phil worked for the University of Iowa Poison Control Drug Information Center for 17 years and later worked in the surgical intensive care unit pharmacy until retirement in 2008.

Phil was father to two sons and was involved in the Scouts. He enjoyed hiking, gardening, and feeding birds. He loved to travel and took many trips to Rocky Mountain National Park and Hawaii. He loved history and enjoyed taking scenic train rides. He was a master griller and enjoyed preparing a meal for friends and family. Phil liked shopping and drinking fine wine. At Christmas time, Phil always chose a beautiful live Christmas tree. He loved spending time with his granddaughter Sophia.

Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Barb; son, Jonathan (Jackie) Lange and grand-daughter Sophia Lange; son, Paul (Shannon) Lange; sisters: Kathy (Dennis) Lange and Lori Lange; brother Dan (Judy) Lange. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ella Lange.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CommUNITY Food Bank of Iowa City or The Shelter House
