Dora Mae Rinehart, age 99 formerly of 320 E. Washington Street, Iowa City died Friday, September 3, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from complications of pneumonia.

Funeral services will be held this evening, 7pm Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4pm until services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Golden K Kiwanis or First United Methodist Church both of Iowa City. Dora Mae Michener Rinehart was born March 10, 1905 in Hedrick, Iowa the daughter of William and Edna “Mae” (Hicks) Michener. She graduated from West Branch High School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She married Robert “Bob” Rinehart May 10, 1958 in Davenport, Iowa. She worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals, then at the Veterans Administration Hospital when it opened in Iowa City, later returning to the University Hospitals. Following this, she worked for a number of years at the downtown Younker’s store.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Business Women- Old Capital Chapter and volunteered at the Senior Center in Iowa City.

Her family includes a sister, Florence Larson of Iowa City; four nephews and two nieces, including her special niece, Doreen Zimmerman and her husband, “Doc” of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob in 1994; four brothers, Herbert, Lawrence, Elvin and Alvin Michener, and a sister, Nellie Endsley.
