Dr. James C. Hardy, 74, of Iowa City, died Friday August 13, 2004 at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville following a brief illness.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 pm at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City with Reverend Paul Akin. The family will greet friends and neighbors at the church from 1:30-2:30 Tuesday. Burial will be private at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation Center for Disabilities and Development.

Dr. Hardy was born April 14, 1930 in Salina, Kansas, the son of James and Mary (Baker) Hardy. He was raised in Kirksville, Missouri and has been in Iowa City since 1951. He received in Bachelor of Science degree from NE Missouri State University and received his Masters and PhD from the University of Iowa. Dr. Hardy was a professor of Pediatrics Speech Pathology at the University of Iowa for 44 years retiring in 1997. He was a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean war.

Survivors include threes sons; Matthew Hardy of Rockford, Illinois, Allan Hardy of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Charles Hardy of Foster City, California; and one granddaughter Christine Hardy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
