Bonnie Lou Mathes, 56, of 400 Oak Street in Hills, died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at her home of cancer.

Friends may call Saturday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Friends may then call Monday after 10:00 am and Tuesday from 10:00 am until noon at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, Iowa. (The family will be present on Tuesday at the funeral home)

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella with Reverend Kyle Otterbein officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Memorials may be directed to either the Iowa City Hospice or a memorial in her name.

Bonnie was born May 20, 1948 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Ivan & Wilma (Kamerick) Mathes. She was raised in Pella and graduated from Pella High School. Bonnie has lived in Iowa City area since 1970 and has been a Hills resident since 1981.
Bonnie received her LPN degree at Centerville Community College School of Practical Nursing and her RN degree from Kirkwood Community College. She was a nurse for 35 years and the last 29 years she was a nurse at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City, retiring this year.

She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family. She also enjoyed sewing, camping, and gardening.

Survivors include her father Ivan of Albia; a daughter Tandra Asha Elizabeth Mathes of Hills; a sister Patricia Bloodsworth & her husband Ronald of Oskaloosa, her twin sister Beverly Mathes of Hills and a sister Tena Mathes of Albia; two nieces, Wendy Sudarshini Su Boeding & her husband Eric of Ft. Madison and Mistyl Annika Christine Mathes of Hills and great nieces, Nadia Ann Su Boeding of Ft. Madison and Annyka Rain Mathes of Hills.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her mother.
