Mary M. Kessler, 93, formerly of 1512 Dubuque Road in Iowa City, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004at Greenwood Manor in Iowa City after 93 fulfilling years as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 AM at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville with Reverend Peter Sanderson officiating. An Order of Eastern Star Service will also be included in the service. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Oak Hill. Entombment will be in the Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Iowa City. Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Trinity Episcopal Altar Guild.

Mary was born September 23, 1910 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of James & Frances (Zastera) Campbell. Growing up in Cedar Rapids, she graduated from Washington High School and attended business college in Cedar Rapids. Mary married Donald Kessler October 25, 1931 in Morrison, Illinois. She worked at Hall’s Gift Shop in downtown Iowa City and as a secretary for Economy Advertising in Iowa City. She retired as a secretary in the obstetrics/gynecology Clinic at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Mary had been a resident of Sterling House in Iowa City, Atrium Village in Hills and Greenwood Manor

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Trinity Altar Guild, Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine and the East Lucas Women’s Club. Mary served as a volunteer for the Girls Scouts of America and the Mercy Hospital Guild Gift Shop in Iowa City.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Kessler & his wife Dottie of Greeley, Colorado; James Kessler & his wife Lou Hogan Kessler of Iowa City; a daughter Rosemary Campbell of Woodville, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Scott Kessler & his wife Ann; Randall Kessler & his wife Karen; Debra Keller; Jeffrey Kessler & his wife Amy; Brian Kessler; and seven great grandchildren, Kelsey, Michael, Benjamin, Will, Jake, Jacie and Kaleigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don and many cherished aunts & uncles.
