Dale William Steckly, 83 formerly of Cosgrove died of a brief illness Saturday, April 03, 2004 at Mercy Hospital. On what would have been Dale and Dorothy’s 56th wedding anniversary.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Edmund Dunn officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, where the Oxford American Legion will conduct military rites. Friends may call on Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremations Service, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Dale was born December 6, 1920 in Parnell, Iowa the son of Samuel R. and Ida Mae (Brenneman) Steckly. In 1938 he was drafted into the United States Army and served during World War II, in Saipan. On April 3, 1948 he married Dorothy Stockman. Dale and Dorothy were both lifelong farmers in the Cosgrove area. One of Dale’s greatest joys was attending his grandchildren and family activities.

Dale was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a member of the Oxford American Legion. For the past two years Dale has been a resident at Crestview Care Center in West Branch.

He is survived by his three daughters, Christine Zinkula and her husband, Steve of West Branch, Connie Kistner and her husband Don of Rock Island, Illinois, Carmen Smith and her husband Jeff of Solon, Iowa; Four sons, Randy Steckly and his wife Helen of Parnell, Iowa, Doug Steckly and his special friend, Kathy Lampe, Tony Steckly and his wife Connie and Kent Steckly and his wife Michelle all of Oxford, Iowa.
17 grandchildren: Lynnette, Todd, Drew, Ben, Jessie, Adam, Jared, Ryan, Kristin, Kevin, Katie, Becca, Brett, Ashton, Bryce, Sam and Sydnee. 4 great grandchildren: Heather, Haley, Reegan, and Dayne. Dale is also survived by one sister, Arlie Donovan and her husband Bob of Brandon, Iowa and by one brother, Dean Steckly and his wife Mary of Frytown, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Rollin and one sister Laverne.
