Helen Mae Cool Poots, 92, of 408 Holiday Road in Coralville, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics after a brief illness.

Friends may call Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville.
Helen chose to be cremated following the visitation on Saturday. A private memorial service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Palliative Care Unit at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics c/o The U of I Foundation, P.O. Box 4550, Iowa City, Iowa, 52244.

Helen was born July 17, 1911 in Baxter, Iowa, the daughter of Scott & Jessie (Allan) Cool. She graduated from Baxter High School in 1929 and later graduated from the University of Commerce in Des Moines, Iowa. Helen married Clifford Poots on July 12, 1932 in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple lived in Newton for 30 years before moving to Coralville in 1962. Helen was a homemaker, a devoted mother who loved life and a member of Coralville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Clifford of Coralville, her children, C. Allan Poots & his wife Jennifer Niebyl of Coralville, Joan Mills of Coralville and Virginia Johnson & her husband Paul of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, seven grandchildren, Patty Weihe, Terry Mills Johnson and Matthew Mills, all of Coralville, Pam Rotondo of Rhode Island, Patty Berube & Paul Scott Johnson, both of Massachusetts and Peter Niebyl of Texas, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Michael Allan Poots, two sisters and one brother.
