William V. “Bill” Myers age 79 of 201 N. 1st. Ave, Iowa City died at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City on Saturday, March 13, 2004 following an extended illness. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City, burial will be at St. Josephs Cemetery in Iowa City. Immediately following the burial a luncheon in celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Eagles Lodge, Hwy 1 West, Iowa City. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice, online condolences may be sent to his family at www.gayandciha.com.

William Vernon Myers was born on March 20, 1924 in Newton, Iowa the son of Frank V. and Elizabeth Busald Myers. He moved to Iowa City in 1933 where he lived the rest of his life. Bill attended Iowa City, City High School. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. Bill married Lorene Sorensen on June 12, 1943 in Columbia South Carolina. For fifty years he was employed at Gay’s Locker Company in Iowa City, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City and the Legion of Mary.
Bill is survived by his wife of sixty one years Lorene, two sons, Richard Myers of Norfolk, Nebraska and Joel and wife Patti Myers of Iowa City, two daughters, Patricia and husband Joe Roe of Coralville, Linda (Gerlits) Atkinson of Iowa City, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bob, sisters, Wilma, Marie and Emily, infant granddaughters, Angela Gerlits and Annie Myers and two sons in-law George Gerlits and Bob Atkinson.
