Hazel JOHNSON KNECHT, 93, of Keosauqua died at 11:10 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Van Buren County Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials to Keosauqua Christian Church of Keosauqua Senior Meals may be left and the funeral home or mailed to the family at Route 2, Box 67, Keosauqua 52565.
Mrs. KNECHT was born Feb. 14, 1908, in Agency, the daughter of Warren and Mary WELSH MEEKER. She married Carl R. JOHNSON Dec. 26, 1934. He died June 13, 1962. She married Kenneth KNECHT Jan. 20, 1977. He died Jan. 16, 1990.
Mrs. KNECHT taught school in Wapello County, was a farm homemaker near Douds, worked at Parsons College and Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield. She moved to Country Lanes Apartments in Keosauqua in 1990.
She had been active in Zion Bible Church near Douds, and was currently a member of Keosauqua Christian Church and Christian Women's Fellowship.
Survivors include one son, Roy JOHNSON and his wife Betty of Keosauqua; one daughter, Ruth TAUBE and her husband Bill of Canton, Ohio; daughter-in-law Bonnie JOHNSON of Douds; three stepdaughters, Dixie GATES of Douds, Donna TAUBE of Sanford, Fla., and Doris KISLING of Keosauqua.; seven grandchildren ; 10 stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Raymond JOHNSON; two stepdaughters; one stepgrandson; one stepgranddaughter; three brothers, Ora, Roscoe and Alva MEEKER; and two sisters, Blanche SCHERTZ and Pauline MAAS.
