Front Page, Column 5MRS. ORVAL P. JOHNSON
Mrs. Orval P. JOHNSON passed away this morning about 5 oclock at her home, 601 West Stone street, from the effects of a capsule of strychnine taken by mistake for an aspirin tablet. She had been in poor health for some time and had arisen about 3 oclock to take some medicine, when the fatal accident occurred.
Two physicians were immediately called and everything possible was done for her. The poison had been purchased to use in killing rats and when her son and wife and their little son had visited them last Saturday she had put it in her purse to keep it out of the way of the little lad. Dr. J. S. Gaumer, county coroner, was called after she passed away and it was decided that it was an accidental death.
Mrs. JOHNSON was formerly Miss Anna May CANTERBURY and she is survived by her husband and two sons: Leicester JOHNSON of Larmoir, Iowa and Leland at home. She also leaves three sisters: Mrs. Lennie ROBERTS of St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. John BARE of this city and Mrs. Oddie ABRAHAM of Ottumwa.
The funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
Mr. and Mrs. Leicester JOHNSON and son Wendall were called here this morning from Larmoir by her death, also her sister and daughter, Mrs. Oddie ABRAHAM and Mrs. Vera KENT of Ottumwa(.) Mr. and Mrs. Lennie ROBERTS and daughter Mrs. Lucille DuVALL of St. Joseph and Mrs. John BARE, who has been visiting there, will come this afternoon.
