Well Known Fairfield Man Died Yesterday in Denver, Colorado.Fairfield people were greatly shocked this morning when a telegram was received in this city from Denver, Col., announcing the death of Ozro JEWETT which occured yesterday after a short illness. Mr. JEWETT and family have been residents of Fairfield for many years and left here only last March for Denver, Col., hoping that the change would help Mr. JEWETT's failing health.
It seemed that no change for the better was had for only a few weeks ago Mrs. JEWETT wrote to friends here saying that Mr. JEWETT was not feeling at all well and that they were thinking of coming back home soon. It is now thought that he became suddenly worse so that the trip could not be made. He had suffered from a nervous breakdown and it is probable that complications set in.
Mr. JEWETT was well known here and there are many friends all over Jefferson county who will sincerely mourn with his family at his passing away. He was a farmer in his earlier life but for the past few years had not been able to attend to that business very much and had been taking things rather easy at his home on East Washington street upon the advice of his physician.
Mr. JEWETT was born near Keosauqua, Van Buren county, Iowa, about 68 years ago. He grew to young manhood in that vicinity. He was married to Miss Zora WALSH (sic - Rosella WALTS) and came to Fairfield about sixteen years ago. To the couple were born four children, one of whom the little daughter died in infancy. Three sons, Allen, Donald, and little Ozro with their mother survive him.
Mr. JEWETT was a faithful member of the Congregatinal church during his life time. He was also a member of Clinton lodge No. 15, A. F. & A. M. of this city and had taken a number of the higher degrees in Masonry. This order will have charge of the funeral and will give the Masonic burial service at the cemetery.
The remains will arrive in this city Saturday morning over the Burlington at 8:50 a.m., and the funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Congregational church. Rev. A. G. Graves will conduct the funeral and interrment (sic) will be made in Evergreen cemetery.
