COURTNEY Rites At Birmingham

Herschel A. (Boots) COURTNEY, 59, of 1003½ West Burlington, died Saturday at Jefferson County hospital after a long illness. He had worked in foundries in Fairfield for 30 years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Birmingham Free Methodist church in charge of the Rev. H. C. Hansen. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Fairfield.

Mr. COURTNEY was born near Perlee July 14, 1899, the son of Jacob and Mary FORSTER COURTNEY. He was married to Ollie BOTTS (sic - BOTT) who died in 1924. On Aug. 23, 1926, he married Letha GOODELL who survives with three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy CAMPBELL of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Maxine MANLEY and Mrs. Patricia BATES, both of Fairfield. also surviving are four grandchildren and three brothers, Frank COURTNEY of Cranston, Clark COURTNEY, Brooklyn, Ia., and Calvin COURTNEY, Fairfield; and five sisters, Mrs. Leota BROOKHART, Letts, Mrs. Grace GARRETT, Mrs. Veda HEYDE, Mrs. Beulah LECKNER and Mrs. Fern KURTZ, all of Brighton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

The body is at the Burch Catcott funeral home at Birmingham.
