DEATH CLAIMS DOUDS WOMAN

DOUDS, Ia., March 9--Death came early this morning to a well known Van Buren county resident. She is Mrs. Esther COURTNEY who passed away at the Jefferson county hospital in Fairfield where she entered as a patient last Sunday. She had been in failing health for several months.

The COURTNEYs, former residents of Fairfield, reside on a farm 3½ miles northeast of Douds.

Last rites will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home in Fairfield with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Esther COURTNEY, wife of C. F. COURTNEY, was born August 29, 1905, in Clarke county, Iowa, the daughter of Nelson and Rose GOWEY HOWELL. She was united in marriage on June 9, 1923, to C. F. COURTNEY. The wedding took place at Fairfield.

Mrs. COURTNEY is survived by her husband and three children: Lee COURTNEY, Fairfield; Mrs. Doris HUNT, Arlington, Virginia; Mrs. Jean TUCKER, Fairfield; and her mother, Mrs. Rose HOWELL, Fairfield.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, one brother, Willis HOWELL, Washington, Iowa; and a sister, Mrs. Charlotte DuBOIS, Des Moines.
