Kate Hawkins, 80, Dies; Private Rites Saturday
Prairie City – Mrs. J. Henry (Anna Laura “Kate”) Hawkins, 80, a resident of Prairie City since 1934, died this morning at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Private funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Walters Funeral Home in Prairie City.
The Rev. Earl Erb of Prairie City will conduct the services. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.
Survivors are a son, Delbert of Prairie City; three daughters, Mrs. Rachel Busby of Prairie City; Mrs. Alice Vander Leest of Newton and Mrs. Maxine McClellan of Prairie City; nine grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Frances Eckles.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dec. 12, 1966.
Mrs. Hawkins was a 50 year member of the Rebekah Lodge at Prairie City.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Jenkins, she was born Oct. 4, 1891 at Polk city.
She was married to J. Henry Hawkins Mar. 19, 1910 at Des Moines.
She also had resided at Colfax.
