Helen Louise Smith, age 92 of Colfax, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Pine Acres Nursing and Rehab in West Des Moines. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 10:30 am at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will take place at Colfax Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice or Pine Acres Nursing and Rehab. Checks may be mailed to Coburn Funeral Home 24 West Howard Street Colfax, Iowa 50054 Attn. The daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Aebli) Shepley, Helen was born on February 12, 1934 in Nevada, Missouri. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1952. On July 31, 1954, she was united in marriage to Richard H. Smith in Colfax. Helen worked at several jobs throughout her career, including Maytag, Younkers in Des Moines and Perky Jerky in Mitchellville. However her greatest job was being a stay-at-home mom. She attended the First Baptist Church in Colfax. Helen came from a card playing family and enjoyed keeping the tradition alive. She also enjoyed gardening, watching college softball. but most of all spending time with her kids and Grandkids.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Jeffrey (Carol) Smith, Fred (Yihan) Smith and Kathy (Jerry) Sneed; four grandchildren, Crystal (Joseph) Priest, Stephanie (Landon) Ausdemore, Travis Smith, and Nicholas Sneed; four great grandchildren, Joseph and Charlotte Priest and Harrison and Everson Lampkin; two sisters, Delores Nichols and Delbert (Judy) Shepley and Kyle Lampkin, Kristin’s husband. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 1986, a granddaughter, Kristin Lampkin, and siblings, Jack (Dorothy) Shepley, Blaine (Carole) Shepley, Dale (Jackie) Shepley, Neil Shepley, Iris (Leo) Stier and Gladys Shepley.
