Calvin Adkins, who formerly conducted a pool hall in the building now owned by Arthur Simmons, died at his home southeast of Marshalltown, Sunday, September 7th, of heart failure and dropsy, from which he had been suffering for some time. The funeral was held Tuesday morning of last week, conducted by Rev. W. H. Cope and interment was made in the Kellogg cemetery.
Mr. Adkins was born in DeKalb county, Ala., October 5th, 1857, and came with his parents to Iowa when but four years of age, settling in Jasper county.
On August 28th, 1884, he was married to Miss Emma Antle, of Kellogg and to them were born ten children, seven of whom survive as follows: James and Russell and Mrs. James Brookens of Marshalltown; Leland Adkins, Newton; Mrs. Jesse Alexander of Tama; Mrs. Earl Stevens, Waterloo; and Lowell Adkins at home. His widow also survives.
