Services for Dr. Vernon H. Coughlan, 75, of Altoona, who died of a heart ailment Thursday at Altoona Manor Care Center, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Altoona Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
Born in Mingo, Dr. Coughlan received his medical degree in 1932 from the University of Iowa School of Medicine. An Army veteran of World War II, he worked for the Veteran’s Administration in Des Moines and Washington, D.C. He moved to Altoona after he retired eight years ago.
Dr. Coughlan was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, The National Association for Uniformed Services, Silver Minute Man Pin Club and Baxter Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, a brother, Dr. Charles Coughlan of Fort Dodge; and a sister, Lois Nowlan of Sunrise Beach, Mo.
Friends may call at the funeral home after noon today.
