A memorial service for Kenneth Cunningham was held Wednesday, May 19 at the Slade-O’Connell funeral Home in Leon. Kenneth, the son of James Aloicious and Hazel “Sally” Del (Sharp) Cunningham, was born February 27, 1941 at Lebanon, Missouri. He died May 22, 2004 at Mercy Hospital ER in Des Moines.
Kenneth was known as both K.C. and Grumpy. He graduated from Mingo High School in 1959. On August 17, 1970 he married Susan Kay Cochran in Omaha, Nebraska with two sons blessing this union, James and Matthew.
The family lived in Altoona from 1971 until 1995 when they moved to Leon. K.C. was in his 25th year driving trucks for American Concrete out of Des Moines. He was an Employee of the Millennium.
In his free time K.C. loved to hunt, fish, golf and bowl. Over the years he was a member of the American Bowling Congress, Iowa Laborers Union and the Altoona Jaycees. He also coached softball, drove a Newton Headstart bus and was a NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his wife Susan Cunningham of Leon; two sons, James Cunningham and wife Sherry of Leon and Matt Cunningham and wife Jennifer of Decatur, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kenneth and Joshua Cunningham, Ariel White, Brittany Cunningham; a sister-in-law Betty Noel of Altoona; two nieces, Wanda Robinson and Kris Rovner of Altoona; a nephew Michael Noel of Altoona; three great-nieces; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
