February 23, 1959 ~ August 21, 2024 (age 65)

Jeffrey Gerold Jones, Sr., 65, of Newton died on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at his home. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, August 26, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Jeff’s name to plant trees (checks made payable to Judy Jones) may be left at the funeral home.

Jeff, the son of Oren Lyn and Dorothy Pearl (Teed) Jones, was born on February 23, 1959 in Des Moines. He grew up in Colfax and attended Colfax Schools. Jeff was united in marriage with Judy McNeeley on February 26, 1977 at the Interfaith Center in Colfax. Jeff worked 21 years for the DOT, working his way up to Supervisor; 10 years for Monroe Tables; and 13 years for the Department of Corrections as a Correctional Safety Officer, retiring on January 31, 2024. He was a member of the Hope Assembly of God Church in Colfax and had served as the Mayor of Colfax. Jeff was an avid Star Trek fan and enjoyed spending time with his family searching place after place for memorabilia. After living in Colfax most of his life, three years ago, Jeff and Judy moved to Newton.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Judy Jones of Newton; children, Sarah (Tim) Miller of Newton, Jeffrey (Carrie) Jones, Jr. of Newton, and Nathan (Reid) Richardson of Austin, Texas; his grandchildren, Carissa Miller, Dylan (Danielle) Miller, Jacob Miller, Emily (Leo) Bushbaum, and Brently Jones; brothers, Victor Jones and Steve Jones; and his lifelong friend, Pam Haney. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janice Jones, in infancy; and a brother, Danny Jones.
