Sandra "Sandy" L (Langmaid) Warden
April 24, 1940 ~ August 19, 2024 (age 84)

Sandra Lynn (Langmaid) Warden, 84, of Newton died on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Newton Village. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends following the service from 2-4 p.m. with a coffee time at the funeral home. Memorials to Newton Village or the Immanuel Baptist Church may be left at the funeral home.

Sandy, the daughter of Don and Pearl (Loupee) Langmaid, was born on April 24, 1940 in Newton. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1958. On March 23, 1958, Sandy was united in marriage with Rex Warden in Green Mountain. Sandy was always active through the years as a homemaker, a mom, and even a dump truck driver when it was needed. As their five children were growing up, they moved to New Sharon and then to Montezuma. During that time, Sandy worked as a clerk at area retail stores. After all of their children left home, Rex and Sandy moved to St. Louis, Michigan for five years where they were House Parents for a Baptist children’s home, housing up to 12 kids at any given time. Upon returning to Iowa in 1990, they lived in Montezuma, then in Kellogg and later back to Newton in 2011. In retirement, although it could be said neither of them ever truly retired, they enjoyed helping at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Sandy was a member, a pianist and organist at the Immanuel Baptist Church, the Montezuma Regular Baptist Church, and the Ithaca Baptist Church. She was also an active member of the Kellogg Lions Club. Sandy loved to bake and cook and always made enough to feed a crowd. As a young girl her family raised pigs so later in life Sandy enjoyed collecting and receiving pig knick knacks as gifts. Sandy’s faith and servant heart were evident in everything she did. She always greeted people with a huge smile and gleam in her eye that made you know how much she cared.

Sandy is survived by her children, Tim (Mary) Warden of Blairstown, Rick (Deb) Warden of Montezuma, Carla (Pat) Foley of Des Moines, Mike (Sheila) Warden of Grinnell, and Dave (Shelley) Warden of West Branch; 31 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; her brother, Bud Langmaid of Newton; and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rex in 2019; grandson, Daryn Foley; great-granddaughter, Makenna Warden; sister, Beverly Edge; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Langmaid.
