Elizabeth “Liz” Marie De Jong was born Oct. 24, 1925, to Floris J. and Agnes (Huyser) De Jong in Sully.
Liz attended Chester School in rural Jasper County, graduated from Sully High School, and attended William Penn for teacher’s training. She married Ivan Brandt Renaud on June 6, 1946, in Sully where they made their home. To this union, they were blessed with four children. They were members of Those Gathered to the Name of the Lord south of Sully. They later moved to Pella where Liz was a cook for the Pella Early Learning Center. She was also a member of the U & I Club and Iowa Ceramics Association, and was a 4-H Leader for 10 years. She was honored by the Community Center for her years of service. Liz had many talents, which were teaching ceramics and crocheting; she made each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild an afghan for a total of 39. She also enjoyed knitting and made a blanket for 35 grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they were born.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Lanson (Leslie) Renaud of Marshalltown, Kevin (Marla) Renaud of Pella, Karna (Doyle) Ver Ploeg of Lynnville, and Lorna (Jerry) Elscott of Sully; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Liz is also survived by two sisters Cornelia (Donald) Den Adel of Pella and Lucille (George) Sjaardema of Reasnor; and brother-in-law Wilfred (Mildred) Renaud of Gresham, OR.
Liz was preceded in death by her husband Ivan Renaud in 1999; her parents; her parents-in-law Walter and Sarah Renaud; sisters- and brothers-in-law Deverne (Norma) Renaud and Myron (Sophia) Renaud; and grandson-in-law Rich Brackett.
Liz will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
