Holtz Services Held Today at Church in Ira
Funeral services for Albert Clarence Holtz, 82, of Ira, who died Sunday at the Skiff memorial hospital, were held this afternoon at the Ira Methodist church.
Survivors include three children, Mrs. Mildred Postma of Newton, Mrs. Andrew (Crystal) Beard of Ira and Harold Holtz of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Florence Shrider of Ohio and Mrs. Beryl Gearhart of Oregon, and a brother, W. E. Holtz of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother as well as his parents.
Mr. Holtz was a member of The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club and the Newton Baptist church.
The son of John Samuel and Cordia Jane Holtz, he was born May 31, 1869 on a farm near Baxter. He was educated in Jasper county schools and the Hazel Dell Academy in Newton.
While a youth he resided in Adair county, Ia., for seven years and lived near Hay Springs, Neb., for six years. While in Nebraska he attended Chadron Academy at Chadron, Neb., and high school at Hay Springs.
He taught school in Nebraska for two years before returning to Iowa, where he engaged in farming.
He was married to Lillie May Baker April 28, 1896. Mrs. Holtz preceded him in death May 1, 1946, two days after their golden wedding anniversary.
