Additional information from Coburn Funeral Home website:
Hendrika "Reda" Plate was born on December 2, 1928, in Diessen, North Brabant, The Netherlands; one of 12 children born to Gerritt and Anneka (Garstman) Branderhorst. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1949. On February 12, 1953 she married the love of her life, Edward Plate in Exeter, Ontario. They started their life together on the family farm northeast of Prairie City.
At the age of 32, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis which she struggled with until her death. She remained positive and always looked on the bright side of life. She was a joy to her children, grandchildren and anyone that met her. Even though she struggled with dementia she could recall, in detail, stories of her life while growing up. These stories will forever be treasured by her children and grandchildren.
Reda was a member of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church. Through all of life's challenges, her faith never waivered.
On January 29, 2014, Reda walked through Heaven's gate celebrating the promise of eternal life. Those left to honor her memory include her children, Annie (Steve) Swanson of Prairie City, Tim (Sheryl) Plate of Prairie City, Sheri Plate of Pella, Carla (Ed) Engelbrecht of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Julie (Ryan) Kramer of Otley; along with 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings Dorothy DeVries, Bert (Shirley) Branderhorst, John (Pieta) Branderhorst, Annie (Dave) Koning, Wilma (Lou) Kodde, sisters-in-law Corrie Branderhorst, Margaret Branderhorst and Ria Branderhorst and brother-in-law Henk Van Giessen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed, two sisters; Marie Vanderbeek and Jane Van Giessen, four brothers; Nick Branderhorst, Peter Branderhorst, Cornie Branderhorst, Gerritt Branderhorst, sister-in-law Nellie Branderhorst and two brothers-in-law Lambert Vanderbeek and Ekke DeVries.
