Janet Nihart
1961 - 2021

Johnston - On April 8th, 2021, Janet Lee Roberts Nihart, loving wife and mother of one child, passed away at the age of 60 after a seven-year battle with cancer.

Janet was born February 18th, 1961 in Newton, IA to William and Madonna (Steen) Roberts. She graduated from Newton High School in 1979, attended college at UNI and finished her education at AIB before joining Huney-Vaughn Court Reporters. She later worked as an Editorial Assistant at Meredith Corporation and then decided to become a stay-at-home Mom. Janet married Dean Nihart on 9/12/87 and on 4/27/96 their daughter Amy was born.

Janet's hobbies included photography, scrapbooking, genealogy, and traveling. She won many awards for her photography and had a real passion for creating the most beautiful scrapbooks, particularly covering Amy's years growing up. In the past decade she has really enjoyed researching her family history through a new love for genealogy, finding long-lost cousins, and we are blessed to know she is now getting to meet some other relatives she had not yet known! Over the years she was very involved with her church, St. Paul Presbyterian in Johnston, and more than anything she loved and excelled at being a Mom, Sister, Aunt, Daughter, Friend and Wife.

There was never a more fiercely loyal spouse or mom, as she truly adored her husband and daughter. She was caring, quietly witty, loving and most people would describe her as sweet. After checking in to hospice, out of concern for the nurses, she asked, "what can I do to make it easier for them?" She was always thinking of others and will forever be concerned for her friends and her family. A note she wrote in her funeral file said "I promise to 'visit' you! I'll do it in as many ways as I can. You'll see me or notice me at least. I love you guys!" We believe she meant this for all of her friends and family, so be on the lookout for a loving message from Janet.

Janet was preceded in death by her father, William, and her Mom, Madonna. She is survived by her husband Dean, her daughter Amy, her sisters Lynn Kennedy and Karen Honold (Dave), her brother-in-law Jeff Nihart (Char), six nephews and their spouses, three grand-nieces and one brand new grand-nephew.

There will be a masked and socially distanced viewing held at Iles Westover Chapel on Friday, April 16th for those who would like to say goodbye to Janet in person.
