Matilda Jane Asher was born in Benton Co, Ark., February 22, 1971 and passed away at the home of her mother Mrs. Alice Asher in Runnells February 10, 1928 being 56 yrs., 11 months and 16 days old. She came to Iowa when she was four years old and has lived in Runnells most of her life.
She was married to J. A. White in Des Moines, July 19, 1890. To them were born seven children, five girls and two boys. One son and one daughter have preceded their mother into the great unknown world beyond. The other children of the family are Harry White of Des Moines, Mrs. Maud Wampler and Mrs. Cora McLaughlin of Florida, Mrs. Pearl Davis and Mrs. Beulah Brown of Florida. Her husband, also many relatives and friends are left to remember her cheerful disposition even in the face of intense suffering that it is impossible to describe. The dear one that passed on and the loving relatives that remain desire to thank all in the community for the many kind and thoughtful acts of mercy rendered them during the long illness and final bereavement.
Those in close contact with the patient sufferer who saw her body shrink from a robust form to but a shadow of her former self, feel a prayer of thankfulness in their hearts that her suffering is over and also as far as earthly testimony and love for her Master can assure us are quite satisfied that she has gained the Glory World.
Truly the words of Paul, “Made Perfect Through Suffering” are dear in her case, Mrs. White or Tillie as we all knew her united with the Christian Church when she was 17 years old and this was a constant blessing to her during her long illness. She loved to have friends sing and pray with her and even when sickness and disease had almost gained the victory over her poor weak flesh, she tried to sing praise to her King.
(Poem was not included)
The funeral service was conducted from the Congregational Church. Rev. and Mrs. Jopling officiating. Interment was in Vandalia cemetery.
