January 31, 1941 ~ April 12, 2021 (age 80)

Marvin Leslie Housley, 80, of Newton died on Monday, April 12, 2021, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 16, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 15, at the funeral home. Memorials in Marvin’s name (checks made payable to Heather Housley) at the funeral home.

Marvin, the son of Don and Mildred (Nichols) Housley, was born on January 31, 1941, in Iowa City. He grew up in Corydon and around the age of 10 moved to Newton. Marvin graduated from Newton High School in 1959. Marvin worked at the Vernon Company for 50 years as a paper cutter, retiring in 2010.

Marvin and his life partner of 36 years, Marilyn Norene Halterman, began their life together on May 22, 1973.

Marvin loved dirt racing and had raced Figure 8, oval tracks, and demolition. He also liked going to antique car shows, feeding his birds and squirrels, and camping, but always told his family he was too young to fish. As a family, they enjoyed getting together for BBQ’s.

Marvin is survived by his children, Teresa Cooper of Newton, Mark (Melinda) Housley of Newton, Terry (Christy) Housley, of Kellogg, and Heather Housley of Baxter; 13 grandchildren, Braidon Cottrell, Alicia Cooper, Charles Shepard (Jessica), Melissa Housley, Marvin Housley II (Tabitha), Ridge Butler, Jacie Nida, Bailey Nida, Mark Butler, Kaylynn Housley, Sawyer Housley, Brier Butler, and Terry Housley; and four great-grandchildren, Raycer Brand, Maria Hedlund, Makenzie Housley, and Marvin Housley III. He was preceded in death by his parents; life partner, Marilyn Halterman; and brother, Ronnie Housley.
