Obituary of Mrs. Emma Gulling
Emma Gulling, daughter of Amelia and Herman Trader was born March 11, 1875 near Vandalia and passed away at Clearview Manor Nursing Home in Prairie City, May 3, 1971, at the age of 96 years, one month and 22 days.
In her early life she became a member of the Vandalia Church of Christ.
On January 3, 1894, she was united in marriage to Pete Gulling, also of Vandalia. To this union, seven children were born.
Mr. and Mrs. Gulling spent 53 years farming west of Vandalia.
After the death of her husband, and she was no longer able to live alone, she spent some time in the home of a daughter, Dessie Pulver. She also spent some time in the home of a grandson, Melvin Wicker. The past 6 ½ years she has been in a nursing home in Prairie City.
Mrs. Gulling was a kind and lovable person and saw good in all. In the past few months her health would not permit her to pursue her hobby of piecing quilts and sewing.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; a son, Eddie, who died in infancy; two daughters, Nellie and Dessie Pulver, also her only brother, Ollie Trader.
She leaves to mourn her passing, a daughter, Mrs. Fern Wicker of Prairie City; three sons, Ross of Prairie City, Harlan and Roy of Runnells; 18 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, a host of other relatives and friends.
