Brian "Railroad" Lee Cron
December 7, 1957 ~ March 22, 2021 (age 63)

Brian Lee “Railroad” Cron, 63, of Newton died on Monday, March 22, 2021, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 26, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following the service burial and military honors will be held at Dumont Cemetery. Memorials in Brian’s name (checks made payable to Donna Cron) may be left at the funeral home.

Brian, the son of Donald and Kathryn (Heath) Cron, was born on December 7, 1957 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1976. Brian served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1976-1980. He returned to Iowa and made his home in Des Moines and later in Newton. Brian was united in marriage with Donna Arenholz on February 28, 2004 in Newton. Brian worked for Iowa Interstate Railroad, retiring in 2016. He was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. Brian was a handyman and enjoyed fishing and supporting Donald Trump.

Brian is survived by his wife, Donna Cron of Newton; children, Shannon (Buddy) Van Tassel of Des Moines, Sharon Cron of Mason City, and Brandon Cron of Jacksonville, Alabama; step-son, Clint Evans (Brenda Winchell) of Newton, grandchildren, Tyler, Chase, Lauren, and Haylie, step-grandchildren, Daniel, Brittany, and Katelyn; great-grandchildren, Kaden, step-great-grandchildren, Jakobie, Liam, and Lane; his mother, Kathryn Cron of Guthrie Center; two brothers, Darrel (Stephanie) Cron of Raytown, Missouri and Steve (Kelly) Cron of Ladora; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Cron and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
