Richard (Dick) Alan Hansen, 62, of Bloomington, Ill., passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016. Dick was born in Des Moines Feb. 26, 1954. His parents were Charles Summerfield Hansen and Ruth (Swanson) Hansen Allen.
Dick’s family moved to Newton in 1963, after Ruth married Robert Allen. Dick was known for being a hard worker and always wanting to earn money. He had an early morning paper route delivering the Des Moines Register then worked for Shell gas station as a teenager. After graduating from Newton High School in Newton in 1972, Dick started working for Lloyd Versteegh’s Roto-Rooter Service.
Dick was married to Pam (Badger) Hansen in 1974. They had one son, Cristopher Richard Hansen. They left Newton in 1982, when he purchased the Marshalltown Roto-Rooter franchise.
Dick moved to Peoria, Ill., when he purchased a Roto-Rooter franchise there. Later Dick married and he and Paula had two daughters, Jordan and Jacie Hansen, as well as two step-daughters, Shannon and Holly. Dick moved to Bloomington, Ill., where he owned Clogbusters Sewer Drain Cleaning.
Dick’s family and many friends called him Red because of his red hair. He was full of life and everyone knew that he loved to tell a joke or a story and relive old memories. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.
Left to honor his memory are his son, Cris (Sarah) Hansen of Columbus, Ohio; his two daughters and step daughters; his sister, Debi (Carl) Danielson of Wilmington, N.C.; his brother, Bill (Angela) Hansen of Des Moines; his sister, Diane (Larry) Plumb of Newton; his aunt, Kay Swanson of Liberty, Mo.; and several cousins and nieces and nephews.
