Mrs. DeReus Dies Today
Funeral Service to Be Conducted Saturday Afternoon
Mrs. A. A. DeReus, 79, died early this morning about 4:30 o’clock at her home where she had been ill since suffering a stroke April 12. Her second stroke was April 15 and for the past several weeks her condition was critical.
Funeral services are to be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Lutheran church by Rev. F. D. Boldt. Interment will be in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Lifelong Jasper Resident
A lifelong resident of Jasper county, she had resided in or near Newton the last 39 years. She was known to many for her work in the Lutheran church, Roy Neighbors lodge,
American Legion auxiliary and Service Star Legion. She also was a member of the Three quarter Century Club of The Newton Daily News and Jasper County Record.
Clara Mae Cushman, daughter of Fayette and Sophia Cushman was born near Prairie City, Ia., Dec. 1, 1861. A brother preceded her in death.
Surviving Relatives
Of the five children born to the couple, a daughter, Grace, died in infancy.
She is survived by her husband, four children, Fayette and Fred of Rock Island, William E. and Mrs. Mattie Trapp of Newton; also six grandchildren, Bill Trapp and Kenneth DeReus of Newton, Ralph, Francis and Edgar DeReus of Rock Island and Bob Trapp of Great Lakes Naval Training station; a great grand daughter, Sandra Stanford of Rock Island, Ill.
