Mrs. Georgia Wells Died Jan. 21s in Des Moines

Funeral services held Sunday afternoon from Colfax Christian Church
Mrs. Georgia Wells, 70, a well known resident of Colfax for fifty years, died Jan. 21 at the home of her son in Des Moines, where she had gone a few months previous. Her death was caused from a malignant disease.

Mrs. Wells was a great lover of her home and family and always present to lend a helping hand when there was sickness or assistance needed among her friends and neighbors.

Georgia Anna Knight was born in Wellsburg, West Virginia, Dec. 27, 1872, the daughter of Hanson Perry Knight and Valeria Victoria Beall Knight, died in Des Moines, Iowa, Jan. 21, 1943, at the age of seventy years and twenty-five days.

She came to Iowa in 1892 and united in marriage to James William Wells of Colfax, Iowa, on Sept. 20, 1893. Four sons were born to this union, William B., Samuel H., James b., and Jesse K. Wells of Sioux Center, Iowa; also two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Stella Ellison of Greenville, West Virginia, Mrs. Mary Jane Garrison and Jesse Knight, both of Morgantown, West Virginia.

Mrs. Wells united with the Church of Christ at the age of eleven years in Wellsburg, West Virginia and brought her church letter with her when she came to Colfax. She was an active member in the Colfax church until illness prevented her attendance. She was a member of the Woman’s Council and of the Loyal Woman’s Class of the church of Christ at Colfax and of the Colfax Memorial Club and American Legion Auxiliary.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Colfax Christian Church with the Pastor, Rev. A. A. Burr officiating.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Earl Plummer, Mrs. George Rinker and Mrs. George Robinson, with Mrs. Howard Williams accompanist.

Pallbearers were Edward Barron, John Luther, Ralph Agar, Cleo Wall, Howard Williams and Albert Wilson.

The flower committee was Mrs. Frank Pease, Mrs. Florence Luther, Mrs. Phil Davis and Mrs. Howard Williams.

Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Colfax. ~ The Colfax Tribune, 23 Jan 1943.
