Charles R. Grout, of Newton, died Monday, April 13, 2015, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton The funeral Mass for Charles will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, with Father William Reynolds and Deacon Dan Goetz officiating. A visitation with the family will be held 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Wednesday, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home. In LIEU of flowers memorials are being designated to Charles’ family or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Charles Ray Grout, 82, the son of Ray I. and Grace (Richards) Grout, was born October 31, 1932, in Tingley, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Tingley high school and attended Creston Junior College. Charles served his country in the Navy, following the Korean Conflict, and was a longtime resident of the Newton area.
On July 2, 1960, Charles was united in marriage with Joanne Kunkel in Haverhill, Iowa. Charles was employed by the Maytag Company, retiring in 1993, after 38 years, as a Lab Process Control Technician. He devoted his life to his family and friends, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed square dancing and traveling. He was a true gentleman, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to honor Charles’ memory include his daughter Roxanne Grout-Quinlan (Robert) of Austin, TX; his sons: Mark Grout (Pepper) of Oxnard, CA and Roger Grout (Kathy) of Andover, Minnesota; his two grandchildren: Amanda and Andrew; his six brothers: Donald of Creston, Dale of Riverside , CA, Marvin of Marion, Kenneth of Cedar Rapids, Robert of Berwick, and Ronald of Des Moines; his sister Ruth Hoy of Adel; and many friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joanne on September 6, 1993; a grandson Maxwell; a sister Doris and a brother Harold. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 13 Apr 2015.
