H. Henning Dies Today
Newton Man Suffered Stroke Sunday; Funeral To Be Wednesday
Henry Henning, a 72-year-old retired Maytag factory employee, died at the Skiff Memorial hospital this morning at 5 o’clock. He suffered a stroke Sunday and entered the hospital shortly afterward.
Funeral services are to be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Murdoch Funeral home with interment following in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mr. Henning had been in ill health the past several years and retired from the Maytag company three years ago. At that time he was employed in the paint department.
Born in Illinois
The son of William and Bertha Koethe Henning, he was born April 2, 1869, at Freeport, Ill., and at the age of two years came to Newton with his parents who settled on a farm west of Newton.
In his youth he was engaged in work at the brick yard for his father and later he began work at the Maytag factory.
His wife, the former Amy Jones, died 19 years ago. His cousin, Emma Koethe, has cared for him the last 17 years.
Surviving Relatives
Surviving are his brothers and sisters, Mrs. Link Marshall, Mrs. C. O. Marshall, Fred Henning and William Henning, Jr., all of Newton, also four nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two sisters, Mrs. Cloyce Ross and Mrs. Ed Stofflet.
