Bernice I. Kubli, 98, of Newton died on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Skiff Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2015, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials to the Judith Bishop Perpetual Book Fund may be left at the funeral home. The fund was established in Bernice’s daughter Judith’s name at the Newton Public Library.

Bernice, the daughter of Charles Roy and Ora Arminta (Curnette) McKinney, was born on September 3, 1916 in Adair, Oklahoma. She grew up between Oklahoma and Iowa. Bernice had worked many years ago as a secretary for Farm Bureau Insurance prior to being a homemaker for most of her life.

Bernice was united in marriage with Zenas C. Jones on September 3, 1955 in Nashua, Iowa. Zenas died on December 26, 1968. On December 26, 1973, Bernice married William H. Kubli in Newton. She made her home in Iowa most of her adult life, except for 25 years she and William lived in Cherokee Village, Arkansas. Bernice had a strong, unwavering faith and was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 75 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Cherokee Village Golf, Cherokee Village Synchronized Swimming Team, the Water Lillies, Newton Lady Elks, and the Skiff Hospital Auxiliary. Bernice was a talented painter and taught decorative painting. She also enjoyed crafting, catering, making wedding cakes, reading, and listening to books on tape. Those left to honor Bernice’s memory are her stepson, Rev. Gene (Jolene) Kubli of Conrad; seven grandchildren, Joni Dean of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Todd Bishop of Des Moines, Jill (Tom) Eaton of Marshalltown, Jana (David) Clevenger of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Phillip (Staci) Bishop of Urbandale, Nathan (Amy) Kubli of Altoona and Bryce (Lora) Kubli of Melbourne; granddaughter-in-law, Zoe Bishop; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Jones, Jeffrey Eaton, Jason LaTorre, Christine Clevenger, Chelsey Clevenger, Dylan Bishop, Tanner Bishop, Davison Bishop, Zachary Bishop, Kylie Bishop, Gavin Kubli, Vivian Kubli, and Kathryn Kubli; and two great-great-grandchildren, Carter and Avery Jones.

She was preceded in death by parents; husbands, Zenas Jones and William Kubli; her daughter, Judith Bishop; and a sister, Ruth Carlile. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 2 Apr 2015.
