Pioneer of County Dies

G. F. Patterson Died Last Night – Funeral Sunday
G. F. Patterson, 81 years old an early settler in Jasper county, died at his home Thursday evening after an illness of only a few days, suffering from a complication of diseases incident to his advanced age.

Mr. Patterson was born in Hargett, Ky., and came to Jasper county when still a young man. He lived for the past 40 years at the farm home, six miles west of Newton and it was there that he died.

Sixty-three years ago he was married to Mary Anna Logsdon. To this union 12 children were born, all of whom survive with the exception of one daughter, Julia Hurst, who died 20 years ago.

He was a prominent farmer and did his share in making Jasper one of the leading counties in agriculture and fine stock. Mr. Patterson was a veteran of the Civil War and has always been interested in the work of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Besides his aged widow he is survived by his children, Edward of northwest of Baxter; Mrs. Armenda Spencer, of Weeping Water, Neb., William Patterson of Murray, Neb., Lee, of What Cheer; John of east of Newton; James, of Wick, Ia.; Tom, of Newton; David, of Weeping Water, Neb.; Susan Tiffany, of Colfax; George, of Newton; Alex of Weeping Water, and a number of friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Morgan Funeral Home, with Dr. Charles B. Hankins and Rev. R. F. Lavender in charge of the services.

Burial will be made in the Newton cemetery.
