Death Takes John Propp
Well Known Jasper County Man Dies After Brief Illness
John Propp, a prominent retired farmer, died at the Skiff Memorial hospital Thursday at 11 o’clock after an illness of but four days.
He has, however, been in failing health for many months, suffering from cancer and other complications.
John Propp was born in Freeport, Ill., 62 years ago and came to Jasper county when a small lad, after the death of his mother. In February of 1866 he was married to Ida Ortwieg and to this union one daughter, Florence, was born. He had lived in Jasper county for more than 50 years. During that time he was engaged until very recent years in farming. He owned much land and maintained an interest in work, even though his health did not permit him taking an active part. Mr. Propp was a devoted father. He leaves many friends who extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.
Besides his wife and daughter, Mrs. Florence Lufkin, he leaves one brother, Charles Propp of Laurel, and one sister, Mrs. Earnest Damon of near Newton and his stepmother, Mrs. Sofia Propp.
He was a member of the German Lutheran Reformed church and the minister of that church north of Newton, will have charge of the funeral services Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home on 313 South Third Avenue East, Newton.
Burial will be made in the cemetery of the German Lutheran Reformed church north of the city.
