Funeral For Colfax Man Was Held Saturday
Funeral services were held Monday for Henry Lowery who died at his home in Colfax Saturday at the age of 85 years from a complication of diseases.
Mr. Lowery has made his home with a niece, Mrs. Alice Cross, since the death of his six children and his wife. He was born in Shellsburg, Pa. July 1837, and came to Jasper county in 1860 where he engaged for a time in farming. He was for many years a blacksmith at Colfax. During the Civil War he was the blacksmith for an Iowa cavalry troop. Mr. Lowery owned much land in the vicinity of Colfax.
The funeral services were conducted from the home with Rev. E. G. Williams and Rev. W. M. Brock in charge. Burial was made in the Colfax cemetery.
