Colfax Pioneer Dies at Rathbun
COLFAX, Ia., June 14. (Special to The Daily News.) – John Schlosser of Colfax, a pioneer and wealthy farmer of Jasper county, died at the home of his son, George Schlosser, at Rathbun, Wednesday morning at the age of 94 years from acute diabetes which developed after only a week’s illness.
Mr. Schlosser was born in the Black Forest county in Germany in 1828 and came to United States when a very young lad. He moved to Iowa via the Prairie schooner way soon after landing in America and brought up hundreds of acres of Iowa land in the vicinity of Colfax he still owns.
He leaves a widow, seven sons, Edward R., Louis, and William of Colfax, George of Rathbun, and his three children who were still at home, Charles, Fred and John, and two daughters.
No funeral arrangements have yet been announced.
The remains will be brought back to Colfax for burial by the side of his first wife, who preceded him in death many years before.
