Gene V. Ratcliff, 89, of Grinnell, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, in Grinnell.
No services are scheduled. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton is handling the arrangements.
Gene is survived by two daughters, Tyaria Ratcliff of Newton and Kathy (Sam) Stoaks of Grinnell; a son, Mike (Linda) Ratcliff of Newton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Betty Collum of Grinnell; and several nieces and nephews.

Gene, the son of John Vernon and Eva Mae (Bowen) Ratcliff, was born January 23, 1921 south of Lynnville, Iowa, and graduated from Lynnville High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Gene had lived in both Newton and Grinnell. He had worked for Getz Buick and for Lauterbach Buick. He had also owned Cardinal Trophies for several years. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, and enjoyed bowling, football, and baseball. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Walter “Bud” and Roy; and 2 sisters, Roseman and Marilyn.
