Larry D. Lamb, 71, of Colfax died on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, Nov. 29, at the funeral home. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
Larry is survived by the love of his life, best friend and wife, Mary; his two daughters, Jill (Tim) Anderson of Newton and Justina (Thad) Loeb in West Des Moines; son, Jon Lamb of Newton; and his six beloved grandchildren, Drake and Haleigh Lamb, Quintin, Maribelle and twins, Marley and Rawley Loeb. He also will be greatly missed by his very special four-legged friend, Sophie. Larry is also survived by sister-in-law, Rosemary Lamb of Mingo, numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Larry will be greeted in death by his parents; his in-laws; his sister, Betty Harper; two brothers, Billy and Omer; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Larry was born September 9, 1939 in Moingona to Milo and Anna Mae (Olson) Lamb. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1957. Larry served our country in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962 during the Vietnam War.
Larry married Marilyn Green in July of 1963 and they had three children together, Jill, Jon and Justina. Later, Larry married Mary Lynch on December 30, 1977 in Newton. They spent the next 33 years together traveling the country in hot rods that Larry had built. In the later years, they purchased a motor home for traveling and Larry enjoyed spending his winters down south with his wife.
Larry spent his civilian career working 30 years for the Maytag Company. He had been in skilled trades and retired out of management as Manager of Maintenance Services in 1996. Larry was very active and accomplished a great deal in his life. Those that knew him well knew that he couldn’t sit idle for long. He thoroughly enjoyed building street rods from the ground up. He celebrated his work by driving them to shows all around the country. He was also an avid fisherman. He took pride in their home yard and gardens. He and Mary maintained many flower gardens and a fish pond on their property. Larry also enjoyed the friends they made at La Pizza House in Des Moines.
Larry’s primary interest in life; in addition to his loving wife were his children and grandchildren. They brought much joy to his life.
Interment: Immediately following the funeral service & lunch on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at at the McKeever Cemetery in rural Colfax.
