A funeral service Reva M. Lowry of Mingo will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the United Church of Ira in Ira.
The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the United Church of Ira or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Memorials may be left at the church on the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Reva M. Lowry, the daughter of Loren and Gladys (Kent) Murphy, was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Newton, Iowa. She and her sister, Eva, were the first twins born at Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Reva graduated from Mingo High School in 1944 and was a lifelong resident of rural Jasper County. She was united in marriage with James D. Lowry on June 1, 1947, in Ira, Iowa.
Reva was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She loved spending time with family and friends, singing and traveling. Reva and Jim ran the family farm, and she also enjoyed working at the First State Bank in Colfax. She was a member of the United Church of Ira, Federated Women’s Club, Christian Women’s Society and the National Grange.
Reva died on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at the Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim; sister, Eva Kling; and brother, Kenneth Murphy.
Those left to honor Reva’s memory are her three sons, Doug of Newnan of Georgia, Joe of Mingo and Bill (Joni) of Waukee; her three daughters, Jane (Gary) Thomsen of Scottsdale, Ariz., Merri Lowry (Rich Sickora) of Altoona and Gerri (Don) Heinrich of Urbandale; 14 grandchildren, Rachel, Jeremy, Jason, Calli, Lauren (Corey), Claire, Megan, Stephanie, Ross, Austen, Jessica, Kole, John and Jake; great-grandchild, Kane; her brother, Marvin (Angie) Murphy of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Beverly Murphy of Cedar Falls and Bobbie Killion of Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
