W. Colleen Cook, 78, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at her home in Baxter.
A funeral service took place on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter with the Rev. Rollin Watters officiating. Visitation was on Friday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, and burial was at Restland Cemetery.
Memorials to the Baxter Rescue Unit or the Congregational United Church of Christ may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.
The daughter of Cloise Boone and Hazel L. (Fehrmann) Bartlett, Colleen was born April 17, 1932, in rural Laurel, Iowa. She was a graduate of Laurel High School in 1950.
Colleen was united in marriage to Paul Cook on Dec. 5, 1959, in Laurel. She grew up in rural Laurel before moving to rural Baxter after she was married.
Colleen was a homemaker and also had worked at Marshall Manufacturing for nine years, and as a house cleaner for over 20 years. Colleen was a Girl Scout Leader, and she enjoyed family, her grandchildren and friends. She also liked to play cards, good jokes, wine making and vacations.
Colleen is survived by a son, Clark (Michelle) Cook of Des Moines; a daughter, Cindy (Todd) Foreman of Collins; two grandchildren, Nathan and Maddy; and her siblings, Mardell Newcomb of Montour, Iowa, and Larry Bartlett of Laurel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul, in 2007; a sister, Phyllis; and two brothers, Wayne and Max.
