LaBertha (Sneller) Vander Schel, 89, of Newton died on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at the Altoona Nursing and Rehab Center in Altoona.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at the United Presbyterian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 10, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the United Presbyterian Church or to the donor’s choice; memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.
Survivors include her four sons, John (Virginia) Vander Schel, Burt (Suzie) Vander Schel and Ron (Mary Kaye) Vander Schel, all of Newton, and Bruce (Beth) Vander Schel of Iowa City; her two daughters, Cynthia (Jerry) Poots of Newton and Marilyn (Chuck) Johnson of Fort Dodge; her son-in-law, Chris Bailey of Newton; 17 grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; her 23 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cyrus, in 1995; daughter, Dorothy Bailey, in 1994; and five brothers.

LaBertha Sneller was born October 12, 1921.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Annie (Hulleman) Sneller; husband, Cyrus in 1995; daughter, Dorothy Bailey in 1994; and five brothers, Gerritt, Rick, Jake, Hank and Arthur Sneller.
LaBertha was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, she was a former member of the Jasper County Senior Citizens, and a former volunteer with R.S.V.P.
LaBertha enjoyed playing games, doing ceramics, needle work, and going on the bank’s bus trips.
