Birkenholz, Louis – 1899-1991

Louis Birkenholz, 92, a lifelong Prairie City resident and a former Prairie City city council member, died Monday, December 23, 1991 at Clearview Manor.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 26 at Walters-Coburn Funeral home in Prairie City. The Rev. Tim Peter, pastor of the Church of the Brethren south of Prairie City, Conducted the services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery.
Memorials to the Church of the Brethren are being accepted.
Survivors are a son, Dale, of Normal, Illinois; two daughters, Marjorie Thompson of Newton and Joyce Birkenholz of Bryan, Texas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Lawrence, of Des Moines; and a sister, Mary Rexroat of Monroe.
Mr. Birkenholz was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Gertrude, two sisters and two brothers.
He had been a longtime member of the Prairie City Volunteer Fire Department. He retired in 1961 from the Jasper County ASCS.
The son of Fred C. and Mary Wilhelm Birkenholz, he was born December 16, 1899 in Jasper County.
He was married to Gertrude Dykstra October 6, 1927 in Des Moines.
