On last Thursday James Woolard who lived a number of mi8les north of this city in Jasper county, committed suicide by taking a dose of carbolic acid. In the evening his son called him to supper and his reply, by saying that he did not want supper and did not expect to live much longer, caused him to see what was the matter. Soon it was found what the father had done. As they were talking of going at once to summon medical aid the dying man said that this would not be necessary as he had taken poison and would soon be a corpse and he spoke truly for before neighbors could be called he breathed his last. No cause for the rash act can be given by the bereaved family. Deceased had long been a resident of Jasper county and was known for miles and miles around.
In connection with the above recorded suicide are the further facts: Deceased was about 75 years of age, and lived about five miles northeast of Galesburg. Coroner Newell held an inquest, which resulted in a verdict in accordance with the circumstances of death. Deceased leaves a young wife and family, besides several children to his first wife. His financial affairs were satisfactory.
