Howard C. Heck, 78, of Donna, Texas, formerly of Newton, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen Texas. A private family burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8, in Deep River, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 8, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home.
Howard was born June 30, 1932, in Baileyton, Tenn., to Nick and Olive Heck. He grew up in Tennessee and moved to Iowa in 1950. Shortly before joining the service he married Shirley Schwarz. He proudly served his country in the U.S. 8th Army from Feb. 1953 – Feb. 1955, including a 16-month tour of duty in Korea. Howard worked at Maytag Company for 42 years and retired as an Area Supervisor in Maintenance.
He later was united in marriage to Donna Mann Minner. The couple lived in Newton, Iowa, and later moved to Donna, Texas, where they enjoyed their retirement home.
Those left to honor Howard’s memory include his wife, Donna of Donna, Texas; his son and daughter, Dave (Robin) Heck and Deb Mohler, both of Newton; step-children, Steve Minner of Montezuma, Iowa, LuAnn (James) Shaffer of Houston Texas, and Dave (Mary Kay) Minner of Aurora, Colo.; his grandchildren, Risa Heck, Ryan Heck, Josh (Angie) Mohler and Aleatha Mohler; step-grandchildren Tony (Rhi) Moles, Nicole (Chris) Keown and Joseph (Diana) Moles, all of Houston, Dustin Minner of Texas, and Patrick Minner and Lauren Minner, both of Colorado; step great-grandchildren, Taylor and Kaleb Engle of Newton, Taylor, Daniel and Gavin Moles of Houston, Texas, Ashley and Mason Keown of Houston Texas, who always called Howard “Pepa”; three brothers, Rex (Evelyn) Heck of Iowa, Bill (Theda) Heck and Nick Heck Jr., and two sisters, Bernice Collins and Merle Bledsoe, all of Tennessee; and two sisters-in-law, Clyde Heck of Tennessee and Vivian Heck of Newton. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bob Heck and Lyle Heck.
Memorials can be made in Howard’s name to the American Lung Association or the American Legion.
