PIPER – In Newton, on Tuesday, July 10th, 1877. Mary Piper, youngest daughter of D. D. Piper, aged 27 years and 4 months.
This is a very sudden and unlooked for affliction that has fallen upon this most estimable family. Mary had not been well for some days, but her illness caused no apprehension on the part of her friends. On Tuesday, the 10th, she began to have neuralgic pains and congestive chills, and when Dr. Hunter was called in the afternoon, he found her nearly pulseless and rapidly sinking from which condition the most powerful stimulants failed to revive her. She passed away at about eleven o’clock p.m.
The family have the sympathy of all in this severe trial. The mother has been very feeble of late and this is a very great shock to her, to have her youngest and apparently most healthful daughter so suddenly taken from her. The affectionate sisters also are prostrated by this sad bereavement.
Mary had warm and devoted friends among all classes who knew her most intimately. She never had an enemy in her life, and the troubles of her last years, which she sacredly locked in her own heart, have served to draw her friends more closely to her in sympathy. It has been evident to all, who have observed her during the past few months, that her health was breaking, but no one thought the end of the mortal struggle was so near.
The funeral services will be held at Mr. Piper’s residence, on Thursday, the 19th, at 10 o’clock a.m.
