DIED – That great reaper in the harvest of death, Diphtheria, has cut down another blossom of promise in one of our Christian homes. John Thomas, son of John and Fanny Hughes, died at the residence of his grandfather, S. H. DeVaughn, six miles west of Newton, Sunday, November 24th.
In our country’s great civil strife the father of this lad wore the army blue, and fills a soldier’s grave in the Newton cemetery. Nov, beside his, lie the remains of his little son and namesake, only eight years old, where we trust they will remain in undisturbed repose, till the music of the resurrection morn shall penetrate the “dull, cold ear of death.”
Funeral services at the residence Nov. 25th, conducted by the pastor of the Baptist church in Newton, Rev. A. Robinson.
